Athletes with Disabilities (AWD)

The Dallas Marathon is proud to welcome athletes of all abilities to our start line. We are committed to creating an inclusive, safe, and celebratory race experience for everyone.

Wheelchair Racers (Push Rim)

Competitive wheelchair athletes race in their own division and receive a wave start ahead of the elite field, giving them open road and a safe racing environment. Only push rim wheelchairs are permitted, handcycles are not allowed. No motorized devices, mechanical gears, or levers to propel the chair.

Duo Teams (Pusher + Athlete)

A Duo Team consists of an able-bodied pusher and a non-ambulatory athlete racing together in a racing wheelchair.

  • The disabled athlete participates complimentarily — no registration fee required.
  • The pusher registers and pays as the team's entrant.
  • For safety, Duo Teams start ahead of Corral B, after Corral A has cleared.
  • The pusher must remain tethered to the wheelchair at all times during the race.
  • The athlete being pushed must wear a safety helmet for the duration of the race.
  • No motorized devices or handcycles are permitted.
