Downtown Dallas Roars as 19,000+ Runners Cross the Finish Line at the 54th BMW Dallas Marathon on Sunday

Frigid temperatures didn’t slow down participants from all 50 states and 30+ countries

(DALLAS) – The BMW Dallas Marathon celebrated a landmark moment today, as more than 19,000 runners, including 170 elite runners, made their way through downtown Dallas, its iconic neighborhoods, and the scenic loop around White Rock Lake, energized by thousands of enthusiastic spectators, before crossing the finish line at Dallas City Hall for the 54th running of the event.

“Congratulations to every athlete who completed their race at this year’s 54th running,” said Jason Schuchard, President of the BMW Dallas Marathon. “It’s an honor to welcome participants from across the North Texas area and beyond each year. The excitement and turnout this weekend truly showcased the spirit of our running community.”

Award Winners

Texas locals and out-of-state/country visitors take top honors at the 2025 BMW Dallas Marathon.

Full Marathon

Steven Fahy, 29, a Dallas resident, achieved a first-place finish with a time of 2:23. “Not only is this extra special because it’s my hometown marathon, but it’s also where I train every day and it’s something I get to share with a lot of my training partners. It’s just kind of extra sentimental for me.”

Alauna Carstens, 21, of Olympia, Washington, was the women’s first place finisher with a time of 2:53. “I’m ecstatic,” she said. “It feels awesome to win. It was great to be here. It’s an amazing feeling.”

Half Marathon

Sergio Mena, 31, another Dallas resident, achieved a first-place finish with a time of 1:06. “I’ve been trying to win this race for the past four years,” he said. “I love Dallas. Just running through the streets and seeing everybody on the side felt really good. This is just a dream come true.”

Olympian Dakotah Popehn, 30, of Deluth, Michigan, was the women’s first place finisher with a time of 1:12. “We had this amazing tailwind today and it made me run faster than I thought I was going to. It was awesome.”

Ultra Marathon (50K)

Jean Otero, 35, also from Dallas, took first place overall (Men) in the Ultra Marathon 50K (31 miles) with a time of 3:12. “It feels so amazing,” he said. “This my Ultra debut and all I can say it’s just absolutely amazing.”

Addison Walling, took first place overall (Women) in the Ultra Marathon with a time of 3:56.

Weekend Events

10K Winners

Hassan Eissa, 36, of Euless, Texas, took first place for men in the 10K on Saturday. The women’s 10K race had an exhilarating finish, with Jasmin Muhammad- Graham, 23, of Fort Worth, Texas taking first place.

5K Winners

Marc Genis, 15, of Colleyville, Texas, placed first for men in the 5K. Maya Shariff, 17, of Plano, Texas, took first place among the women running the 5K.

Kids’ Races

More than 6,000 kids of all ages took part in the marathon’s annual line-up of family races, including the Kid’s 100M Dash, Oncor Kids 100M Dash, and the 2-mile Oncor Kid’s Race, now in its 22nd year. To kick off one of the nation’s largest kid’s running and walking events, Carter High School student, Acuarela Jimenez, sang the National Anthem.

Friday Night Lights Mile

The BMW Dallas Marathon hosted its sixth annual Friday Night Lights Mile event Friday evening, a two-lap Grand Prix style race around Dallas City Hall Plaza. With a sell-out crowd of nearly a thousand registered participants, the event offered eight different heats for seniors, kids, elite runners, and walkers. The elite heat wrapped up the evening, with the winner running the 1-mile course in just under 5 minutes.

Beginner/First Time Miler (Open Age Range)
Rocky Cortez, 22, of Forney, Texas, placed first for the men, and Shannon Hartmann, 38, of Plano, Texas, placed first for the women.

Walkers (Open Age Range)
Josh Bogan, 33, of Waco, Texas, placed first for the men, and Maggie Mount, 73, of Fate, Texas, placed first for the women.

Youth (18 and Under)
Maddox Click, 16, of Dallas, Texas, placed first for the men, and Annabelle Angeles, 14, of Murphy, Texas, placed first for the women.

Senior (50 and Older)
Charles Clark, 53, of Corpus Christi, placed first for the men, and Jessica Jacobsen, 50, of Midlothian, Texas, placed first for the women.

Masters (Ages 40-49)
Johnathan Souza, 45, of Midlothian, Texas, placed first for the men, and Becky Angeles, 48, of Murphy, Texas, placed first for the women.

Young Masters (30-39)
Brad Godspeed, 39, of Dallas, Texas, placed first for the men, and Cheetah Babic, 38, of Dallas, Texas, placed first for the women.

Young Adults (19-29)
Steven Champ, 29, of Dallas, Texas, placed first for the men, and Zaria Rufus, 23, of DeSoto, Texas, placed first for the women.

Elite (Open Age Range; Men: Sub 5-Min/Mile, Women: Sub 6 Min/Mile
Cael Grotenhuis, 22, of Flagstaff, Arizona, took first place for the men. Krystal Quiroga, 39, of Grand Prairie, Texas finished first for the women.

The Health and Fitness Expo, which took place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center on Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13, had an estimated attendance of more than 50,000 visitors.
